Desert Island Discs is a BBC radio programme that was first aired in 1942.
It has a somewhat unusual take on the regular celebrity interview format in that each guest is asked to select eight what was then called 'gramophone records' to take with them to a desert island and then invited to talk about what each piece of music meant to them.
